BloodRayne: Betrayal Trailer Soaks the 2nd Dimension
In an era where vampires have taken over every form of media, there is one mistreated vampire out there who hasn’t gotten her piece of the bloody popular pie. The BloodRayne franchise was born of 2 great-in-concept-but-average-in-execution games and became another victim of Uwe Boll as an unwatchable movie (and direct-to-DVD sequel). It had been over 6 years since video games have heard from her when Majesco announced the return of BloodRayne as a downloadable title coming to XBLA and PSN as BloodRayne: Betrayal, and here’s a look at the first trailer:
First off, restarting a forgotten franchise as a downloadable title is a great way to build back interest. That being said, I didn’t expect much from BloodRayne: Betrayal other than to cash in on the name. BloodRayne looks much more at home in 2D than I expected. With plenty of style and blood to match, Betrayal looks like a Castlevania adventure with a lot more gruesome action, which is a welcome addition for this fan of both franchises. As it stands today, both XBLA and PSN have a bit of a gap when it comes to 2D adventure games, and if Shadow Complex is any indication, the fans of those adventures will surely bite into another one if the quality holds up. It still remains to be seen just how well BloodRayne: Betrayal plays and how deep the adventure experience goes, but I gotta hand it to her as this vampire vixen made quite an entrance. Welcome back, Rayne.
