The Gunstringer Hits Shelves with Bonuses in September for $40

Remember The Gunstringer? That game that was being developed by Twisted Pixel and going to be the first Kinect enabled Xbox Live Arcade game released. Well it is still in development and it is bucking the trend of $50 Kinect games. Releasing on September 13 in North America, The Gunstringer will be $40. Not only will it include the game, you will also get a download code for Fruit Ninja.

So for $10 cheaper than a normal Kinect game you get an extra $10 worth of value. That’s not all buyers of The Gunstringer will receive. Free launch day DLC will also be included where you take on the role of Wavy Tube Man Jr. and hop in a time machine to try and prevent his father’s death from the marionette, Gunstringer. Additionally, if you preorder the game from select retailers you’ll receive two tokens for a free avatar prop from the game!

I’m not sure how to feel about this promotion. It’s great that the game is going to be cheaper than a normal Kinect game and include all those extras, but what is the motivation behind this offer? Is Microsoft pushing this game so hard because they haven’t really had a successful Kinect game? Or does The Gunstringer suck and in order to sell as many copies as they can, they added all the extras to intice people to buy? Are those two questions the exact same? Twisted Pixel has been pretty successful so far at what they’ve done, but some have been questioning the core gameplay around their great-in-concept titles. How will The Gunstringer hold up? We will find out on September 13th.
