Developer of the Year

This team went way above and beyond just releasing a game this year.

Grimmy Winner

Psyonix (Rocket League)

Success certainly gets you attention. Developing a great game definitely makes you worthy of that attention. Developing a great and successful game does come with some burdens though as your new fans can be hard to keep happy. The safer bet may have been for a small developer like Psyonix to leave Rocket League alone and just let it be a surprising Summer success. Instead, Psyonix managed to navigate the tricky waters of combining paid DLC with free updates. The result? Everyone continued to play more Rocket League, everyone wanted to buy a Delorean, and we can't wait for Season 2 to start. Rocket League forever!

Finalists

  • CD Projekt Red (The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt)
  • Toby Fox (Undertale)
  • Kojima Productions (Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain)
