24 Hour Charity Marathon Challenges and Questions

Charity Gaming Marathon

Just a few days left until the A Call to Gamers’ 1st 24 Hour Charity Gaming Marathon for Child’s Play - Friday 10/14 at 7pm EST. We still need help getting the word out to help raise donations so RSVP on our Facebook Event page and help us get as many gaming sessions going throughout the event.

ACTGamers.org will be taking donations as well as covering all of the updates. It’s also about time we gave you an update on what to expect from the event itself.

What is ACTGamers.org?

Once we go live on Friday, you can follow all of the action on the A Call to Gamers website at ACTGamers.org. There will be a live blog with donation updates, game session announcements, and live streaming video from our Twitch.TV channel. We will also be tweeting updates from @ACTGamers.

Aside from gaming, how else can I help?

  • Awareness – The entire goal of the event is to make others aware of the Child’s Play charity and that A Call to Gamers will be having future community service events. Like A Call to Gamers on Facebook. Watch the livestream. Follow the blog. Then, tell a friend to tell a friend. Tell a friend to tell a gamer. Every person can help and Child’s Play can use all the help you can provide.
  • Donations – There will be an online donation form prominently available on ACTGamers.org. Donations will be taken through PayPal and all donations will go directly to the charity. A Call to Games, Horrible Night and our staff of volunteers will not be taking any of the proceeds from this event.

How can I participate in the games?

  • Join an existing game – Every hour we will be updating a list of the active online games we are playing as well as promoting a loose schedule of what is upcoming. Not only will we list the games the primary Horrible Night players are playing, but we will also be promoting community driven games.
  • Start a game and tells us – To get on our list of community games, notify us when you start or plan on starting in the comments or on Twitter. We will promote your game session. Just send us the game, the system, and your gamertag and we’ll promote it to help you find more marathoners to play with. If you are livestreaming, send us that link, too. The more streams the awesomer.
  • Any amount of time works – While our crew will be going for the full 24 hours and we welcome anyone to join us on our quest, we do not require or ask that you play for the entire time. 30 minutes, an hour or two or six are all a tremendous help to getting the word out. Just let us know when and what you are playing.

What are these challenges you speak of?

To help provide a bit of motivation when the need for sleep hits hard, we are currently devising a list of challenges across a range of games. We will promote this list on ACTGamers.org and take suggestions in the comments here. At the end of the event, we will tally up the amount of games and challenges completed from our 24 hour crew to determine our charity challenge champion at the end of the event. Put us the test and feel free to take the test yourselves and tell us about your accomplishments.

What games will you be playing?

We will put out a loose schedule and list of games on Friday, but expect a plethora of multiplayer games across the Xbox 360, PS3, and Steam as we want as many players to join in as possible. We will promote our gamertags for ease of joining into our game sessions. Also, we will be featuring a few sponsored games as well as indie titles, free-to-play games, retro games, and maybe even a dance session to get our energy level back up to normal.

Here are some of the games we will be featuring

  • Gears of War 3 – Horde Mode
  • Space Pirates and Zombies
  • League of Legends
  • Worms 2: Armageddon
  • The Dishwasher: Vampire Smile
  • Monday Night Combat
  • Portal 2 Co-op
  • Mortal Kombat
  • Fruit Ninja
  • Scott Pilgrim Vs The World
  • ZP2KX
  • Your own game sessions that we will promote for you
  • …and more because who knows what crazy ideas we’ll come up with at 4am.

If there’s anything else we can clarify in the meantime please ask away in the comments. We’ll keep updating this page leading up to the event. Get the word out so we can help Child’s Play!
