Alan Wake’s American Nightmare is Warm Up Game for XBLA House Party 2012

Who says downloadable games aren’t gaining popularity and a certain level of awesome? Microsoft’s Major Nelson announced the lineup for the Xbox LIVE Arcade House Party, and there are highly anticipated games in the list. Luckily for many of us the warm up game at the party will be Alan Wake’s American Nightmare on February 15, 2012.

Alan Wake's American Nightmare

Despite what you might think the observatory is NOT the nightmare.

Alan Wake was a unique horror mystery game released in 2010, and many wondered when or what the sequel will become. Many hints were dropped throughout 2011 that the game many not be released on disc, and that became truth late in the year. Alan Wake’s American Nightmare is to be downloaded as part of Xbox LIVE Arcade. In this installment Alan Wake will be battling his evil doppelgänger, Mr. Scratch. Penning a little from The Dark Side, this game promises to deliver more creepy baddies, guns, flashlights and an awesome backdrop of Arizona at night. There will be a new game mode featured as well. Buy your tickets early to not miss this opening act.

I Am Alive and the Others

I Am Alive

This is what happens when you forget that one last screw.

After a long stint in development purgatory I Am Alive will be released on February 22. This Ubisoft game takes place a year after a cataclysmic event which wipes just about everyone out. You play as a man trying to survive and find your family. This game promises to challenge moral choices and see if you have what it would take to survive.

These two games are notably the most anticipated from this edition of house party, but there are two others who came we should probably hang with. Nexuiz is a sci-fi shooter released by THQ on February 29 which is largely based in an arena-style game play with shiny weapons and a complete disagreement with physics. Warp by EA on March 7 is a puzzler of a game in which you play Zero, a lethal orange alien with a heart of gold. You must escape the facility you’ve been held captive in by solving puzzles and using your alien skills.

After all the games left January and moved to February or March it is looking like February is shaping up to be a great rebound month to a hectic finish to 2011 and slow start to 2012. Are there any games you’re looking forward to on this list?
