Awesomenauts Video Reflex Review: Saturday Morning MOBA for Everyone

Competitive multiplayer games are more intimidating to new players than veterans would like to admit. I’ve never been able to get into Multiplayer Battle Arenas (MOBAs) without having my morale completely crushed, but the genre continues to explode. Lucky for me, that means we are starting to see different breeds of MOBAs out in the wild, to the point where I can get hooked on a game like Awesomenauts before fully realizing what it is I am playing.

Throughout May, Horrible Night will be Going Indie and featuring indie game related articles in support of the Indie Game: The Movie screening in Indianapolis on May 23.

Ronimo Games presents Xbox Live Arcade and Playstation Network gamers with what appears to be just a gorgeous multiplayer 2D action platforming game with a Saturday morning cartoon styled presentation. That was enough to get me to try the demo, and soon enough I was addicted to learning each character’s strengths and special abilities to help my team win. I didn’t know it at the time, but I was learning the ropes of MOBA gameplay and having a blast while doing it.

That’s when I met up with Josh and Ethan to get their opinions and answer their questions about Awesomenauts:

Awesomenauts was released on May 1, 2012 and is available now on XBLA and PSN from Ronimo Games.
