Resident Evil 6 Demo Game Curious Video: All Kinds of Residents

by on July 5, 2012 at 3:51pm

The Resident Evil 6 demo was made available this past week to those that purchased Dragon’s Dogma for Xbox 360. To say the sixth numerically titled entry in the series has seen it’s fair share of mixed commentary after an action heavy trailer was shown would be an understatement. Fear not fans, as after playing through the short demo I can happily report there is something for all manner of Resident Evil fans in RE6.

I’ll let the video do the talking for me as you’ll clearly hear noises of delight that can only come from a grown man getting a gamer boner.

This video is intended for an mature audience as Resident Evil 6 will be rated M and contains violent horror-based content and our commentary is not kid-friendly:

We’re back!!!!!!

When we first booted up the demo I was surprised to see that I had a choice in which character’s mission I could play. Short scenarios for Leon, Chris and newcomer Jake Muller were all available and each had a flavor all its own. Where as Chris took on some biologically enhanced terrorists on top of a rooftop in action that felt very reminiscent of Resident Evil 5, Leon’s mini-adventure in Tall Oaks had the kind of slower paced, tension heavy gameplay that harkened back to the early days of Resident Evil. Jake’s demo appeared to show off what boss fights would be like within the game as he and Sherry Birkin (I incorrectly identified her as Ashley from RE4)  face off against a brute of a creature that I can only describe as The Incredible Hulk with a torture device attached to his arm.

The demo excited me primarily because it appears as if the multiple scenarios will help tell a story with a much larger scope while expanding upon the backgrounds of the many characters that inhabit the Resident Evil universe. Additionally, the controls felt comfortable and I can safely say that the infamous tank controls are completely gone. Outside of the inherent pressure that comes with livestreaming a game when you also happen to be a self-proclaimed RE expert, I didn’t run into a whole lot of frustrating button presses and the additional set of moves that RE6 introduces work well.

Resident Evil 6 will be released for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC on Oct 2, 2012.
