MercurySteam Wants to Finish the Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Story and Move On

by on July 27, 2012 at 2:33pm

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow has left quite an impression with our Castlevania crew here at Horrible Night. This is in no small part thanks to the spoilery revelations displayed in the Lords of Shadow 2 trailer. With 3DS release in Lords of Shadow – Mirror of Fate also in the works, fans like me were definitely curious about what all of these sequels actually mean for the future of Castlevania. Dave Cox, the producer of the Lords of Shadow trilogy, sat down with Game Informer and discussed that very thing. (Caution: there are spoilers for the first Lords of Shadow game throughout the article.)

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow

Gabriel has a story to share.

As for the future of Castlevania, Dave made the declaration that MercurySteam’s focus is to tell the Lords of Shadow story and “move on to other things.” Stating further that MercurySteam has “no intention of milking the series” and hopes that fans enjoy it as an “interesting take on the Castlevania mythology.”

In an industry filling up with yearly sequels, and for a franchise that seemed content to on alter its formula ever so slightly between handheld-focused games, it was hard to know what Konami really wanted out of Lords of Shadow. At least we know what MercurySteam is intending, and hopefully its unique take on the franchise plays out as well as it has planned.

Would you like to see more or less from the Lords of Shadow tale? Where should Castlevania go from here?
