Pitched: Breaking Bad Chemistry Plug & Play Game
If you tell me that you aren’t the least bit curious about some Plug It In & Play TV Games at some point then I will call you a bold-faced liar and depants you. Every multi-generational gamer has seen a Plug & Play TV Game that has either brought you back to the retro nostalgia of yesteryear. The incredibly popular soap opera with zombies, The Walking Dead, now has its own P&P TV Game version in The Walking Dead Zombie Hunter. It’s a first person shooter on-rails affair in which you use the shot gun to blast away zombie heads with the comfort of holding a firearm in your living room. This got me thinking, however, that there are other shows that need a P&P TV Game, and my first obvious choice is AMC’s Breaking Bad.
Way to take 20% of the show and make a game out of it!
The Premise
Let’s face it. Walter White in Breaking Bad didn’t exactly make the socially responsible career move when he found out he was dying of lung cancer. So he took his chemistry knowledge and skills to create methamphetamine to get the green for his family before he died. His intentions were good, but the execution might have created a series of events which helped Breaking Bad give us five seasons. If Walter were real, I’d thank him for the entertainment but question his decision making skills at the same time.
This is an aggressive game with a dark premise, and I might as well go big or go home. Luckily, the game is played at home on the TV so nothing is lost there. The hardware is simple. A table with a series of chemistry apparatuses and buttons to play the game lay before you. Your task is create the perfect drug to secure your family’s future. Unfortunately, you lost all your labels and you cannot remember which bottle or jar holds what. Now you’re forced to work from memory and create meth successfully or die a poor, lonely man. Since multiplayer is all the rage, the game can also support co-op. So bring your wife or kid in with you to help beat the timer before it all blows up in your face!
I hate when I lose at the game as much as the next guy.
Puzzles!
Each time you play the solution is randomized to ensure replayability. The combination of ingredients is essentially the same, but it’s important to memorize them as the game will be unforgiving and switch things up. For example, your mobile meth lab is on the move in rough terrain. You have to create the drug before you reach your destination despite your supplies moving about the table on the screen. Did I mention the table comes with a rumble pack?
What if your lab is on fire? Everything is going up in flames, but if you quit now you die poor. That is only a small sampling of the puzzles that await you. Here’s a more complete list:
- Your lab is flooded!
- You mixed some ingredients and some could be explosive!
- The power is out! Mix your ingredients in the dark!
- The police are at your door! Finish the job!
- And much, much more!
Damn it feels good to be a gangsta.
Living in Walter White’s Shoes
Walter is probably the most notable anti-hero. Breaking Bad gives us a dark story that has entertained, saddened, and made us uncomfortable all at the same time. It goes against all morals we were raised on. This game promises to put you in Walter’s shoes which is truly an immersive experience. Most Plug It In & Play TV Games are simple and monotonous, but Breaking Bad Chemistry gives us truly challenging puzzles while challenging our ability to know between right and wrong. Do we go through with making the drug or take another path and end the struggle? Whatever the case, Breaking Bad Chemistry is one game I cannot wait to lay it all out on the table.

Pitched – Despite having the technology to put a man on the moon and clone sheep that we don’t need, humanity has struggled to convert their most popular movies into video games and vice versa.
