The team the brought us Earthworm Jim and The Neverhood is getting back together to create a new point-and-click adventure game, creator Doug TenNapel announced on Facebook. The game will feature his unique style of clay and puppet animations. Doug went into some detail on why the new game cannot his EWJ or Neverhood characters:
“I want to note that EA is not being bad in protecting their property, and they have no obligation to make an iPHone port or to let me use the character… I sold them the couch after all when I assigned the character rights to Dreamworks Interactive. If it was up to me, I’d make 800 Neverhood sequels the same way that I would make 800 new Earthworm Jim games. It’s not my decision, and it’s not my place. It’s MUCH easier (and frankly, funner) to create something new!”
The team is currently taking suggestions from fans on what they would like to see in the new game. Even in the golden age of adventure games, The Neverhood managed to stand apart on style and puzzle design alone. I’m anxious to see what they can pull off with today’s animation technology.
