In Indie News: Bastion Dev’s Next Game and Battleblock Theater Release Date

Bastion was a landmark achievement in the transition of indie games into the mainstream and one of our favorite games of 2011. Developer Supergiant Games has certainly been busy in converting Bastion to platforms we never expected for an action-RPG of this caliber (like Chrome and iOS), but that’s not all they have been up to.

This weekend at PAX East, Supergiant will be bringing a playable version of its new game, Transistor. What is Transistor, Supergiant describes it on its blog:

In Transistor, players assume the role of a young woman who gains control of a powerful weapon after a mysterious group of assailants nearly kills her with it. Now she must fight from street to street against forces that will stop at nothing to recover the weapon. During the course of the adventure, players will piece together the Transistor’s mysteries as they pursue its former owners.

Transistor both looks familiar, but also somehow shows off even more artistic style and capabilities of the Supergiant design team. Look for its release in “early 2014.”

Battleblock Theater Opens on April 3rd

Forever is almost over.

I’m not sure if fans of The Behemoth or the team at The Behemoth is more excited for the release of Battleblock Theater. First announced back in 2009 after the success of Castle Crashers, Battleblock Theater has never had a hard release date until this week when it was announced as April 3, 2013 for XBLA.

Battleblock Theater is a brawler/puzzle platformer featuring single player and cooperative gameplay as well as a variety of multiplayer modes and a level creator. The story mode centers around your character being shipwrecked and betrayed by your best friend and forced to perform in the local deadly theater for the entertainment of the cat populace. Levels feature gem collecting and platforming to unlock the exit.

Looks like its sense of humor remains in tact through the long development schedule:
