Meanwhile… Tickle Party

Meanwhile… we’ve actually been playing games. Each week we recap our recent gaming experiences and tell you what we’re looking forward to, so you can use your time more wisely than we have. Apparently, even when we can’t game for real, we all end up playing the same 2-3 mobile games anyway. Otherwise, everyone seems to be settling into their first major title for the fall which will fuel our fights of which game was best come December and January.

Rock Band 3

I has it

JDevL
Def Jam Rapstar and DJ Hero 2 were big hits at our costume party. There will be video evidence soon to prove it. I was really surprised with out people took to DJ Hero 2, and it gave me a lot of hope for the success of that series. Rapstar, what can you say? Just add alcohol and a camera and see what happens to your friends. My drive up to Chicago saw me settle into the meta world of Game Dev Story on my iPhone which shares some evil addictive qualities with The Sims, stay away if you can.

This week believe it or not (cuz I don’t), I’m actually going to keep it simple. And by that I mean, only 3 games. Rock Band 3 will get the most of my attention, I have to achievement whore out the guitar points as fast as possible while I learn the keyboard in my downtime. When I need a break from all of the rocking I’ll be killing myself in Super Meat Boy as much as possible. When I need a break from all of the shouting of expletives at my TV, I’ll cool off with Costume Quest. And look, apparently I’ve given up on Castlevania: Lords of Shadow and didn’t know it :(

It’s been a Fable II week for me. Since talking about it during last week’s podcast, I really haven’t advanced the storyline. I’ve just concentrated on doing jobs and the odd side quests here and there. I don’t know if I’ll get to it this week though. Costume Quest is calling my name. Even though it’s a fairly short and easy ‘RPG’, the demo was a lot of fun and I’m determined to get all the achievements for that game. I haven’t looked at the list yet, so I’m not sure I’ll be dedicated enough for that but it’s good to set goals right?

I haven’t played much but am excited to jump further into Fallout: New Vegas. The little I have played has already impressed me and the bugs haven’t been too much of an issue. There was a Steam sale on Batman: Arkham Asylum and I am pumped to play that. I loved the screens I saw but it came out during a period of time that I wasn’t playing as much. Safe to say I should have my gaming schedule filled.

Fallout: New Vegas

She's had work done.

I played the hell out of Cut the Rope last week, getting every star and every achievement. I’m ready for some new levels! Other than that I played a little Left 4 Dead 2 again, starting on the normal campaign from the beginning and working through the first chapter. In the coming weeks I think I’ll be plowing through the rest of that campaign with my fellow L4d2′ers. I played a little SC2 and Age of Empires Online …. but I’m not supposed to talk about that per the non-disclosure. I’ve yet to get my money out of Halo: Reach yet, so I’m hoping to start playing that here sometime soon, and I would love to jump back into some Bad Company 2 online multiplayer. I have no plans to buy any new games until I get through some of the games I have on my shelf and in my queue…. except for when Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit comes out. I cannot wait for that one.

Been a bit of a different type of gamer this week. Picked up Cut the Rope and Angry Birds Halloween for iPhone this week and have been enjoying both immensely. Also been playing through Myst on the iPhone and remembering how much I love that game. Haven’t played through the whole game in probably 10 years, so I’m having fun figuring out the puzzles anew. The gameplay translates to the iPhone amazingly well. But if you haven’t played the original, you may just think the graphics suck. I’d love to see a new Myst like adventure game done well on the iPhone as I’m completely sure it could be done. Maybe with the graphics of the new Unreal 3 that’s being worked on for iOS.

Scott Pilgrim vs The World

Demon cheerleaders are the only kind I tolerate

Then over the weekend my wife and I finally took the time to sit down and start playing Scott Pilgrim vs. The World: The Game and we were pretty much blown away. Hadn’t played a good street brawler in a long time and it was fun to play with the two of us as Scott and Ramona fighting the evil ex’s. The amazingly epic soundtrack to the game by famed chiptune artist Anamanaguchi sets the perfect mood and the retro-style graphics and animation tie the movie and the comics together flawlessly. If you enjoyed the movie DEFINITELY check out the game, you won’t be disappointed!

This coming week I’m looking forward to finally getting into Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. I have an idea that my wife *might* be getting me the limited edition version for our anniversary. I’m really excited about it no matter what anybody else says. After all, my favorite game in the franchise is CVII: Simons Quest which breaks more Castlevania rules than almost any other!

This week I won’t have much time to play anything. Last week, I ended up playing mostly iPhone games and hardly touched the XBox or Wii at all other than to watch a DVD. Since I still don’t have an internet connection I have to be creative with how I experience in-home entertainment. Last week, I was able to make it through Cut The Rope, after which I found out that Cut The Rope is actually not created by the same development company that did Angry Birds, it is simply published by the same company, Chillingo (recently acquired by EA). I will likely be revisiting Angry Birds for the rest of the week and getting back into XBox on Saturday when my internet connection is going to be installed.

World of Warcraft

I'm sorry about this, Ben

This week should be a good gaming week. I played through a little of Comic Jumper this week, which is hilarious but nothing to slouch out, difficulty-wise. I also bought Super Meat Boy which seems to be getting high marks from the Horrible Night team and others so I’m looking forward to getting into that. And… well… this is hard to talk about but… I may have re-installed and patched World of Warcraft. So many people me have started playing again, including JDevL! We’ll see how long that lasts; I don’t play on the retail servers so even if it continues I won’t be enjoying Cataclysm anytime soon. All of these, of course, could and probably will be put on the back burner after we get Fable III. My roommate is still playing Fallout: New Vegas and probably will be for quite some time so that gives me plenty of time to get into our copy of Fable before he does. Now, I just need to convince my girlfriend that my limited free time is best spent hanging out with her and playing video games at the same time. That seems reasonable, right?

Fallout, Fallout and more Fallout. I’m about 9 hours into the game. It’s awesome, I’ve only had one crash so far on the 360 version and that oddly enough came after an update. Other than some minor bugs the game is awesome. The engine isn’t much to look at but it’s all about the story and the quests. One thing I can say about those game, they make it really hard to be good. I find that I have to fight the urge to lay waste to everyone who says anything slightly mean and all I want to do is steal everything I see. I highly recommend this game to anyone that loves RPGs.

Meanwhile… What are you playing?
