FemShep Leads the Way in the Best Mass Effect 3 Trailer Yet

FemShep Leads the Way in the Best Mass Effect 3 Trailer Yet

For a series that prides itself on gameplay options, Mass Effect advertising has been surprisingly dominated by the generic male version of its hero, Commander Shepard. BioWare and EA recognized that gamers did not identify with the default character model of the female Shepard to the point that it prompted them to conduct a Facebook campaign where fans could vote for the new “FemShep” for Mass Effect 3. With the voting complete, it was time for FemShep to star in her first [...]

You’re Gonna Get It Anyway: Darksiders

Coming off an incredible year in video games in 2009, I was just starting to get my bearings when Darksiders arrived in stores in early January of 2010. Darksiders ended up being my biggest surprise of the year and one of my favorite games of this generation. While it was a day-one purchase for me, just 4 months prior to its release I had completely written the game off as being generic, boring, and slow. I said some harsh things [...]

Pineapple Smash Crew Review: Nothing Fruity About These Mercs

I’m going to start by saying that I have a strange fascination for video game developers that work in tiny teams. I want to disclose this because I maintain a strict ethical code that requires me to reveal any potential bias that may alter my review of certain gaming themed materials. Being that the spectacular Pineapple Smash Crew was developed by one guy (Rich Edwards of Rich Make Game fame) and scored by another (chiptune master Syphus), you may think I’m about [...]

I Learned Something Today: BioShock

I’ve fallen victim to the grass is always greener mentality several times in my life. I’ve moved across the city, across the state, and across the country looking for answers to small and large questions. Searching for home or just searching for thrills, it didn’t matter. However, when you get too far off the beaten path you are just looking for trouble. There is some weird trouble out there, too. Most of which I discovered from the lessons of BioShock. [...]

Assassin’s Creed: Revelations Review: These Old Bones

The latest installment of the Assassin’s Creed franchise takes you on a journey in which Ezio Auditore’s story is ending. He’s much older and somewhat “retired.” Yet, in Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, he will find himself in one more adventure and a race against time. What about Desmond Miles? He’s been the “puppet master” in the Animus as he has relived Ezio’s life. AC:Brotherhood left everyone on a cliffhanger, so finding out what happens to him is equally important. Then, you throw into the [...]

Starhawk Beta is Live and Release Date Announced

Multiplayer fans on the PS3 got a galactic treat last week when the Starhawk beta opened up to the public. Sony also announced the release date for the game itself for May 8. A sequel to the popular Warhawk has players engaging in intense multiplayer third person shooter action on the ground and vehicular combat that extends all of the way into space. Starhawk also includes a “build and battle” system with RTS elements for constructing and improving your team’s base. [...]

I Am Alive Trailer May Be Bluffing

Not much is known about I Am Alive after its turbulent development cycle. Bursting back onto the scene with recent trailers and a fast approaching release date during the Xbox Live Arcade House Party (which starts on February 15th) has revealed that the game is still focused on surviving in Chicago a year after a devastating earthquake. The most recent trailer (below) highlights the combat scenarios your character will face while traversing the debris filled city. Weapons are scarce, people [...]

Cheap and Dirty Gamer: Game Type, The Most Sarcastic SHMUP 80 Points Can Buy

Media Ball was conceived as the perfect aggregate of all things entertainment. It’s creators (who are now dead) even went as far to coin the now infamous Media Ball catchphrase “It does it ALL”, ignorantly underestimating their cybernetic sphere’s capacity to truly do it all. What started out as a platform for games, music, social networking and popular shows like “Single Guy in Chair” and ”Fat Guy and Pretty Girl” eventually led to Media Ball’s domination of the world. Tragically, humanity was no match for the intuitive [...]

Saints Row: The Third Review: That Just Happened

I should have been done with open world games, especially those focused on carjacking and big-city crime stories. I had had my fill, and no matter the presentation or polish it would not be enough to cover up the formulaic missions and repetitive mayhem. I dismissed the Saints Row series as a knock off and proof that the genre had grown tired. Despite it’s sophomoric appearance, Saints Row: The Third is not dumb. It knew it had an uphill battle [...]

I Learned Something Today: Serious Sam 3: BFE

Serious heroes are not made in one battle, let alone in one-on-one battles. The true test of heroism lies in wars of attrition. Recognizing the against all odds moments and stepping up is the first test of a would-be hero. When the war comes it will come quickly and it will bring an army the likes of which we have never seen. Will you be ready? You can be if you know the lessons of Serious Sam 3: BFE. The [...]
