Don’t Be That Guy: Debunking the Myths of a Sega Fanboy

Don’t Be That Guy: Debunking the Myths of a Sega Fanboy

I’ll admit that I’m a huge Sega fan boy. The Master System was my first console and I have fonder memories of the Genesis and Dreamcast than the SNES and Nintendo 64. I’m also a fairly intelligent human being that has never let such bias get in the way of reality and the reality is my nostalgia for Sega products will never bring back the good ol’ days nor will it cloud my perception. The relationship between Sega and me [...]

Hey! Watch! Real Life N64 Goldeneye

Hey! Watch! Real Life N64 Goldeneye

Goldeneye looked incredible when it was released for the Nintendo 64 in 1997. Compared to most games from that era, I’d argue that it holds up pretty well. At least until I saw Warialasky’s video. Reenacting Goldeneye in real life may change the way you look at the game entirely. For fans of the original, at the very least it is sure to incite Natalya Rage at the very least. Gaming Crushes: Wild Rides with the Mediocre

Gaming Crushes: Wild Rides with the Mediocre

I’m almost sorry I’m not around to see Justin L.’s reaction when he sees me explaining that, in secret, I have a crush on RPGs and quite a few of them are bad RPGs. You see, over the years, I’ve casually spurned the well-received RPG powerhouses from Square Enix and Sierra and even the RPG/action mix of the Kingdom Hearts games wasn’t enough to get my attention (I just can’t get past Cloud’s stupid hair). To be completely honest, with the exception [...]

I Learned Something Today Too: Banjo-Kazooie – For a Better World

I Learned Something Today Too: Banjo-Kazooie – For a Better World

Sometimes I forget to eat and get really hungry. This usually leads to anger and confusion which happen to be the catalysts from ranting and raving the likes of which have never before been seen on an episode of “I Learned Something Today. “ I’m ticked off and it has quite a bit to do with the aforementioned emptiness of my belly and aspects of the Nintendo 64 game Banjo-Kazooie. The Lessons of Banjo-Kazooie Bears and birds need to be [...]

Gaming Regrets: Throwing Out the Old

For many of us, the current generation of consoles is just the latest in a long line of video game platforms that we’ve owned. In the near feature, our current systems will be replaced for the new kid on the block. 20 years from now we might look back with fond memories of all the great games we played (and wrote about). It’s been 20 years since I sold my first console to buy my next. I’ve had to give [...]

I Learned Something Today: Banjo-Kazooie

The world can be a dangerous place full of witches, ogres, metal sharks, and perhaps even a talking toilet. You never know what those baddies will do to you. So going alone is not an option. You need friends to help you along the way. Some you meet, some you’ve known for years. They are all very helpful and thanks to them I have learned the lessons of Banjo-Kazooie. The Lessons of Banjo-Kazooie Don’t leave home without a bird Standard [...]

I Learned Something Today: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time

I apologize if I’ve told this story before, but time travel does a number on your brain. I can’t necessarily keep my adventure straight in my head, but I can pass along the lessons of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time The Lessons of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time Long term memory is useless Music classes are the key to time travel You cannot save the world during puberty Jars yes, pots no Indestructible chickens are needlessly angry [...]

Mario Madness: How to Lose at Mario Kart 64

The Mario Kart franchise has historically been my ice breaker with new gamers. With its recognizable characters, easy to learn pick-up-and-play gameplay, fun powerups and varied track designs, there are more than enough hooks to grab gamers of all skills and ages. Sure, it was fun with a buddy on the SNES, but for me, Mario Kart 64 was my catalyst to get a whole group of friends interested in games. MK64 supported up to 4 players at once for [...]
