I Learned Something Today: X-COM: Terror from the Deep

I Learned Something Today: X-COM: Terror from the Deep

Being put in charge of any sort of group can be difficult, but when it comes to running global anti-extraterrestrial task forces, the challenge reaches a magnitude best illustrated on a graph with a line running straight up. While such a position may seem incredibly intimidating, leadership in this area is crucial as freedom from alien dictatorship relies completely upon silky smooth operations of aforementioned forces. While there’s yet to be a competently written book on the subject, task force [...]

Watch and Play the Air Buccaneers HD Alpha

Watch and Play the Air Buccaneers HD Alpha

Ludocraft have released a new gameplay trailer for Air Buccaneers HD, the successor to my favorite UT2004 mod involving multiplayer Pirates vs. Vikings airship battles. The video will give you a taste of what the ship battles look like, as you can see fully-crewed dirigibles broad siding each other out of the sky. I can attest to the satisfaction one gets from successfully obliterating an enemy vessel via teamwork and tactical maneuvers. The game isn’t easy. It also doesn’t do [...]

SimCity Returns in 2013 with Social Flow

SimCity Returns in 2013 with Social Flow

SimCity is making a comeback! The latest installment of the ”Sim” franchise is set to hit sometime in 2013, but details are sparce outside of some information regarding multiplayer and the mechanic called “Social Flow” which is said to allow players to change areas around them based on their choices. One thing that is pretty obvious from the trailer is that today’s technology is going to give players the oppurtunity to create some pretty amazing locations but I realize that building cities isn’t [...]

PlanetSide 2 is Looking Good at GDC

PlanetSide 2 is Looking Good at GDC

Sony Online Entertainment is showing off a whole bunch of PlanetSide 2 at GDC this week, and thanks to the magic of the internet, you can watch its whole demonstration. PlanetSide 2, like its predecessor, is a genuine MMOFPS. It’s going to be free-to-play, which is a welcome change, and seeing the game in action definitely made my pants tight. The game looks downright gorgeous at times. The new bases, which are always home to some huge infantry engagements, got [...]

Battlefield 3: Close Quarters DLC Announced for June and Two More Later in 2012

Battlefield 3: Close Quarters DLC Announced for June and Two More Later in 2012

The Battlefield 3: Close Quarters DLC expansion was announced for June 2012 at an EA event last night. There haven’t been any major DLC release since Back to Karkand was released in December 2011. Close Quarters will include four new maps and 10 weapons. There will be no new vehicles introduced as it’s speculated the maps will be relatively smaller in size…hence the “close quarters.” The timing of this announcement is curious as there is a growing segment of the BF3 community, particularly in [...]

Vessel Reflex Review: Puzzling Out Fluid Dynamics

Vessel Reflex Review: Puzzling Out Fluid Dynamics

I feel bad starting out the reflex review for Vessel with this but: the music (by John Hopkins) and sound (directed by Leonard Paul) is awesome. That’s not to take away from the rest of the game at all, since I’ve really enjoyed the time I’ve gotten to spend with it so far, but the combination of the two sets up so much of the rest of the game that not starting out praising it would be remiss on my part. In [...]

Hey! Watch! The Crying PC Gamer

Hey! Watch! The Crying PC Gamer

I have been struggling to find reasons to jump back into Battlefield 3 after a weekend full of playing against hackers drained my enthusiasm for the game. For a moment, I thought I was the only person in the world who was so physically shaken up by people cheating but I realize this is not the case as a PSA from Freddie Wong uploaded back in Jun of 2011 shined light onto this subject in a very technoligically advanced and emotionally [...]
