E3 11: Day One Recap Featuring Microsoft, EA, Ubisoft, Sony

Admittedly, we are still digging out from the flood of media and press conferences of the first day of E3. With Microsoft, EA, Ubisoft, and Sony all taking to the stage there was plenty of game action to get excited about and we’ve highlighted the one’s that caught our attention below. All of this and the doors weren’t even open yet at E3. The Press Conferences GameSpot steps it up and has already archived the live press conferences for your [...]

Shiniest Objects: Mongering All Over the Place

For as great as E3 week is, pre-E3 week is probably the most irritating week of the year. So many rumors, so little facts, so little time before we can finally get some answers. But not quite yet. In other news, the PSN Store came back and lots of new trailers set the stage for the event to come. Luckily, we got to vent on the rumor madness and make a movie pitch that surprisingly has not been picked up [...]

Does May 2011 Matter? – The Horrible Show 060111

The big industry news maker may be right around the corner, but May 2011 might go down in history. Justin, Cole, Ethan, and Justin overanalyze the PSN outage, Elite Modern Warfare 3 news, and reveal just who the target audience is for E3. Mmm toadstools. Send in your questions to simon@horriblenight.com or @TheHorribleShow Once a month we bring recap the previous months headlines and energetically fill them with tangents in our quest to determine if the news matters in the [...]

Shiniest Objects: Break Things

Hey Sony is back and better than, well, PSN is back, sorta. At least Microsoft decided to jump in on the fun and knowingly break some 360s while Warner Bros attempts to break Batman. I don’t think anything snapped on our site, but we did try to fix Too Human. Every day we are on the look out for the most interesting news items in the gaming industry. Some make it on the site as headlines, and the articles that [...]

A PlayStation Network is Back!

Over the weekend, Saturday night to be exact, Sony finally restored the PlayStation Network. After being down for over three weeks, hundreds of people rejoiced when prompted to download the new firmware Sony’s calling 3.61. What it does is restore access to the PSN and asks that you reset your password upon trying to sign in. Ladies and gentlemen, be forewarned: not much has changed. It still takes forever-and-a-day to download and install anything over the PSN, even if the [...]

Section 8: Prejudice Reflex Review: Dudes with ‘Tudes in Robot Suits

Hey kids, playing video games about sweet robot suits is great, but remember that prejudice itself is not. Having preconcieved issues with people of different races, backgrounds or idealogical foundations is straight up whack. When people think about downloadable gaming, they tend to think of the myriad of unique puzzle games and retro-influenced side scrollers that populate the digital marketplaces of their systems of choice. Few would expect to find a full blown FPS with multiplayer and single player components and even fewer would expect [...]

Games of May Solve the Case

Not much wants to go up against Rockstar this month, but there could still be a few surprises out there. We finally have something nice to say about Black Ops for a change, and we’re patiently waiting to see what exactly Brink is. Check out the list of major releases this month along with our thoughts on our favorites. Week of May 2nd Call of Duty: Black Ops – Call of the Dead – Xbox 360, (PS3 next month) [...]

I Confess: Final Fantasy VII

Over the years, I have played a lot of video games. I have also played a lot of the same games over and over again. When you play the same games repeatedly, it doesn’t give you a chance to get to some of the ones you probably should nor does it give you the chance to experience some awful games as well. In no world would I ever call Final Fantasy VII awful, however I’ve made it clear that it [...]

REPLY TO ALL: Is Single Player Dying?

Companies like Valve have started talking about moving away from single player experiences all together and combined with the recent episodes of the “internets collapsing” (PSN), do you think multiplayer games will still take over in the near future? Rob I really don’t think the PSN debacle will have much of an impact at all. I’m a little pissed about having my credentials and payment information out in who-knows-where, but it’s honestly not going to stop me from having a [...]

Does April 2011 Matter? – The Horrible Show 050411

If the internet holds it together we’ll take our monthly look back at the game industry’s news headlines. Justin, Cole, Justin, and Christina determine if anything can hold its own against Nintendo console rumors and the PSN outage. Also, potatoes. Send in your questions to simon@horriblenight.com or @TheHorribleShow Ethan is apparently allergic to headlines, but that doesn’t stop us from reliving the highlights(?) of April. That is if Cole ever stops talking about Ally McBeal long enough to let us [...]
