Shiniest Objects: Just What are You Showing Me?

Shiniest Objects: Just What are You Showing Me?

GDC made for some great reading material last week as well as Microsoft’s Spring Showcase. Oh ya, and there was some space game that came out and sold a few copies and angered some self-entitled idiots. We spent our time recovering from the Louisville Arcade Expo by throwing our own Horrible Night Out and discussing our gamecation ideas. Every day we are on the look out for the most interesting news items in the gaming industry. Some make it on [...]

Harmonix and Rock Band are 100 Million Downloads Strong

When we last left Harmonix they had been sold off by Viacom (MTV) and become and independent studio once again. The rhythm game genre has also seen the temporary death of Guitar Hero, so naturally the future of Rock Band has been in question. Especially considering that Rock Band 3 is currently budget priced even though it enjoyed great critical success last year. Harmonix’s Chris Rigopulos, VP of Strategy and Business Development, recently sat down with Game Informer to discuss [...]

Shiniest Objects: April O’Neil was Better

I think April is the new-old January and the news just isn’t as consistently flavorful. However, we did find some release dates and preview info worth talking about. Locally, we formally announced our next game night event and previewed more games in one week than we ever have before (2). Every day we are on the look out for the most interesting news items in the gaming industry. Some make it on the site as headlines, and the articles that [...]

Shiniest Objects: MMOh Just Kidding

The Game Developer’s Confernce (GDC) kept everyone on their toe’s last week with more reveals, trailers, and industry insight than we are used to out of that event. Our friends over at In Gaming We Trust are raising money to help a local flooded animal rescue facility, and here on Horrible Night we announced our first game night event coming this week. Every day we are on the look out for the most interesting news items in the gaming industry. [...]

Meanwhile… Farewell for Now, Cowboy

Meanwhile… we’ve actually been playing games. Each week we recap our recent gaming experiences and tell you what we’re looking forward to, so you can use your time more wisely than we have. From the Old West to New Vegas to the battlefield and the storm of bullets all in between, we did some serious gaming. Don’t worry, that will continue to happen as Justin tries to scrape and claw his way out of addiction while he plays Dragon Age: [...]

Meanwhile… Summit Disaster

Meanwhile… we’ve actually been playing games. Each week we recap our recent gaming experiences and tell you what we’re looking forward to, so you can use your time more wisely than we have. Surprisingly, this group was actually able to game together, in person, this weekend. We aren’t talking online gaming, we are talking old school hanging out in the same living room and mocking each other’s performances. Welcome to 2011. This week our guest gamer is streetalchemist who may [...]

Meanwhile… Dead Time

Meanwhile… we’ve actually been playing games. Each week we recap our recent gaming experiences and tell you what we’re looking forward to, so you can use your time more wisely than we have. Cole returns to Indiana and to video games, but soon stumbles into old habits. This week our guest gamer is Coopopolopolis. Colefacekilla Normalcy returned to the Killa household this past week! I finally got my TV and 360 hooked up and immediately started a game of Alan [...]

The Horrible Show 01-05-11: Does December 2010 Matter?

We can’t quite let go of 2010. At least not before Justin, Cole, Ethan, and Christina get a chance to overanalyze the game industry headlines of December. The VGA’s, Rockstar rocking, Xbox Live Rewards, and Cole says goodbye to Cali. Send in your questions to simon@horriblenight.com or @TheHorribleShow Time to sum up the last month’s headlines and see if any will have a larger impact on the industry down the road. As usual we start off off the road in [...]

The 2010 Grimmys: Queued Up Award

Listen, we know you are a good game, no one doubts that, but you just came out at a bad time for us. We’ll get to you next year and know you’ll make it worth the wait. The Nominees Fallout: New Vegas – All Fallout games are intimidating undertakings, and New Vegas is no exception. Not only does it have a vast amount of content, but if Fallout 3 taught us anything it is that there is a lot more [...]

Harmonix Goes Indie All Over Again

Harmonix, makers of small indie games like Dance Central and Rock Band 3,  is no longer owned my Viacom. Columbus Nova, an investment firm with over $2.0 billion in assets, has decided to purchase the developer. The one man dance party known as John Drake, went to the Rock Band forums to announce the deal: We’re excited to be returning to our roots as an independent and privately owned studio. As for what it means for you, the DLC schedule [...]
